Favorite Coffee

As much of a tea snob I am, I'm not real picky about my coffee. Here at the house the daily brew is folgers classic roast. I drink my coffee black and I'll drink it hot, cold, or anywhere between. I drink it all day every day.

I've tried an instant coffee. I don't recall if it was Folgers but it tasted like mud as well. I'll take my coffee brewed, thank you.

Side note: I purchase my tea at a long standing establishment called the Spice Merchant. It is the place in my area to buy spices, teas, and coffee. When you enter the store you are instantly greeted by the wonderful aroma of freshly ground coffee. It is such an amazing odor and it instantly makes me want some. (far more intense than popcorn aroma in a theater) They offer so many different beans and blends that I haven't a clue what to buy. I wish I were schooled on the different coffee options. I know a rewarding experience could be had.

The wife and I have decided that the next time we go to the spice store we are trying some of their coffee. It's been over a year since my post above and the desire to explore something better than a tub from the grocery store has peaked. I have no idea what we'll try. I'll be leaning on the expert advice from the coffee personnel at the shop. I like my coffee black. I want something more robust with a nicer finish than Folgers. My wife doctors her coffee so with creamers and such that I can't imagine it making a great deal of difference what coffee she starts with. Wish me luck and if you have any suggestions... they are welcomed.

If you really want to taste great coffee, especially black coffee, then go buy a cheap bean grinder and grind the beans immediately before you brew the coffee. That is the best way to get the depth of flavor you are after.

We stopped at the spice store yesterday and bought a half pound of Dark Sumatra. We brewed a pot this morning and found it quite good. Though I thought it was tasty I'm not sure it's worth $7+ a half pound. We will try something different next time. It is the only way I know of finding something we really love. If we stumble upon something that is fantastic, I can stand the price.

My second pot of Dark Sumatra is better than the first. I made it a bit stronger and the flavors are more pronounced. Doing a bit of R&D, I'm going to try Kenya AA next time. It is another Arabica coffee bean that boasts of different flavor notes.

It's been over a month since we tried the Dark Sumatra. We ran though that and have now tried all the standard coffees available at our local market. We haven't needed to return to the spice store for tea but I might have to make a special trip just for some coffee. Nothing at my local store did anything for me.

That return trip to the Spice Merchant went down today. I made a special trip just to buy a new to me coffee. I bought a pound of Kenya AA coffee for $15 and will give a few cups a go in the morning. It smells wonderful but it appears to be a much lighter roast than what we've been drinking.

Kenya AA coffee is a mouth full of flavor. It hints at being a bit fruity and a tinge sweet. Each sip seems to strike my palate differently. My wife enjoyed it more than I as she likes her java sweetened with flavored creamers. I was hoping for a more robust traditional coffee flavor. It's a great coffee all the same and it might become the daily driver. The only thing negative with this flavorful coffee is its price.

so i do not have a place that sells premium coffee beans near me. so the only place i can go is Wholefoods or Starbucks. i just bought my mom a premium coffee maker with a coffee bean bur grinder. i think i will start with something at Wholefoods.....but if anybody else has a suggestion. i know the op suggested Illy off of Amazon. i might give that a go as well.

question should i wait to buy the beans? i will not be using the maker until Xmas. how long do they last all packaged up?

I'm not one that knows about storing the beans. I'm only guessing but that guess would be that the time between now and Christmas would have little if any degradation of the beans. Considering there is a fair time span between harvest and roasting then shipping and stored and marketed, another month can't be that significant. There is likely a prefered temp and humidity that is best.

I was reduced to drinking Folgers classic this weekend for that is what I had down there. I think it's going to be impossible to return to that as a daily driver. I'm already spoiled to something with more flavor.

I returned to the Spice Merchant today with intentions of trying #3 of 4 on my list of to try beans. One they were out of and the other they quit selling. He didn't elaborate as to what happened to the crop this year but it must have been devastating. He said their price was over $100 a pound so they dropped it. Of the two coffees that I've tried from the store, Kenya AA was by far my favorite so I came home with a fresh supply.

When we were at Costco last week I purchased a three pound package of Kirkland branded Columbian coffee beans. Yesterday we drank the last of our Kenya AA coffee and today our first taste of the Columbian. It proved to be a rich coffee with a clean finish. It is a far cry from the Kenya AA taste but at $15 for three pound vs $15 for one pound it's a flavor that's very good. :)

Bump:

I can still taste the Irish chocolate Wiskey that I had freebee at a local shop over here, the smell is like a deep vanillia type of bean flavor, as well as even the light hint of caramel flavor to attached with each bag you open it up, and inhale, sure it has a really deep waft of heavy stuff but given a taste to it, it sure taste so delicious around in the morning :)

Van Houtte Kenya Kilimandjaro Coffee Keurig. If I had to pick an absolute favorite coffee of all time this one would be it.
It and Tully's house blend were two I always kept on hand. One day I went to bed, bath and beyond where I normally got my kcups. I decided to mix things up, I had been buying the Kenya k cup for a year and a half. I don't remember what I got, but I went back two weeks later to get the Kenya k cup and it was sold out, later I would learn it was discontinued:mad::(:maddroid::saddroid::thumbsdowndroid:

If you live in area that has a HomeGoods, Ross's, Marshall's or TJ Maxx go check them out for coffee and tea, they often carry a wide variety of independent coffee and tea, the price are reasonable it allows you to break out of the traditional coffee, Folgers, Maxwell house, etc

I am 30 miles away from TJ Maxx.. But I will check it out next time I am up in town.

I'm 15 minutes from an establishment called the Spice Merchant. They specialize in coffee, tea, and spice. I buy both my coffee and tea there and it's difficult to leave the place without getting something to try. I love the place and the aroma.. is to die for.

There is a closer place that does it, that is around only 10 miles away from me, I can get coffee and all the tea I can drink over there..

For gas station coffee highlander grog . Last year I found it in the k cup variety. Oh speaking about Kenya AA coffee i came across it in some market in Tennessee 🤔 a 10 oz bag was around $12.00 i didn't get because I was afraid I wouldn't like it and I think i already had a lot of coffee on the truck
