Ow then guys

Just thought i would start up a new one asking what peoples favourite retro game was, and why :D.

i have 2 my are Abes Oddessy for PS1 and Alex the Kid for Sega mega drive,

AO i think because the ps1 was the first real console that i understood and that game was the one that you got free, I just remeber christmas eve when my old man was setting it up for a supprise, Layed in bed listening to him try and play chanting abe for ramdon reasons.

And.

ATK because its just cool as, Rock paper scissors battles on boss levels and ugly frog men, just quality gaming man.

I often enjoyed watching people fail in old games like SM3 as well as the Sega Saturn classic 'Daytona USA'. it was decades before YouTube so it was my only path....although nothing like the hilarious fail videos of rage quits people see now.

anyone remember Pac-Man Plus? that was a flop from what i recall. it was basically the same old Pac-Man but like the difficulty of it was insane

I'd have to look at all the games I use to play, but those two stuck out in my head haha

Super Punch-out was the watered down sequel to Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. either way i sucked at both, K.O. in level one! Virtua Fighter (Saturn) on the other hand i was pretty decent at, although it was not that good compared with Mortal Kombat (mom wouldn't let me play that one due to the gore at the time).

i still at times fire up SWOTL in DOSbox to play, for its time (1991) it had every element of most recent combat flight sims. damage, (even engine/mechanical damage was simulated and your throttle would be cut to like 50% if bad enough, engines on B-17s caught fire, planes could explode (killing the player) even bullet holes in the windshield) and the way the missions are randomized means the game was playable a long, long time. i was not sure if Tour of Duty mode even had an ending. i could play it for months and i'd likely die before i'd finish by forgetting to jettison a damaged drop tank after having my confidence level so high....that and you could play as either the Germans or USA. that was a first in gaming and seems to not be in any more recent game, be them infantry, first-person shooters or combat sims of any kind. the only present-day game to hold a candle to SWOTL today is Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders, on iPad (not available on Android)

Here's a little trivia about Mortal combat you may or may not know.. It was the game that started the ESRB and was the first game to receive a rating of Mature

It was actually old games that got me into Android. I used to get clone consoles such as the GenMobile and FC-16 Go, but then I was browsing DealExtreme and found one of JXD's Android-powered handhelds. Lately I've been playing Donkey Kong Country 2 non-stop on my S5110.

I got started on my gaming when the PS1 game out. Some of my favorite games were in the Crash Bandicoot series (1 & 2, Cortez's revenge I think it was), and medieval 2. Road rash was also a great game. Played the crap out of GTA1 (including London 1969) and GTA2 as well.

some of my faves:

King's Quest (all)
LucasArts adventure games (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, etc)
Q-Bert
Centipede
Sinistar (sp???) - arcade machine
Tron - arcade machine
The Oregon Trail
Word/Number Munchers
