Fax app?

Is there an app that allows you to receive a fax sent to your cell#? Or even send by taking a photo and sending?

I know faxes are ancient now, but the business world can't seem to get past them. I generally scan and email, but some of our vendors still fax.

I guess I should have specified that I want a fax app that actually works, didn't think I'd need to be that specific since most don't want apps that don't work. I did do a search, but nothing came up here that was recommended highly. When I started the thread, this forum even did a search and came up blank.

I've tried a couple that claim to receive a fax sent to a cell, but they don't seem to work. Perhaps I have a setting incorrect in FilesAnywhere?

Looked on AndroLib, even the comments are derogatory of most.

Anyway, if any of you KNOW of one that works FOR YOU and would RECOMMEND it, then please let me know. ;)

I too would be interested in this as I use fax more than email at work. Please report back if you have any luck.
 
Hummm, I'd be interested also. Imagine... we have a touch screen, use stylus to sign, resave, fax out. Now that would be sweet to be able to do that without having to print, sign, scan (picture or whatever), then send.

Hadn't even considered that option, but that would be advantageous.

What about a web fax application? I use one and it delivers faxes to my email via pdf, which I can open from my Evo.

I haven't tried sending yet... does Android let you browse its file system to upload a file from a web page? If so, you could send a fax from it too.
 
Hey guys,

I recently used an app called scanr. It allows you to not only send a fax but also scan a doc using your ph cam. I tested it out yesterday & it works great. It even sent me a confirmation email that it was successfully sent. It has other features on there which i havent messed with but i doubt u r able to receive faxes with this app. Still a time saver!

As I understand it, all the "fax like" programs use internet connection to send the file to gateway and it will be faxed then. All I need is a real fax application. I have 3 phone numbers assigned to my SIMcard - phone number, datamodem number and fax number, so it will be nice to be able to send and receive fax directly, like on Windows Mobile.

FaxZero.com allows you to upload a file and send it to a fax number. You can always use eFax.com to receive. Is that what you had in mind? I work for a startup, and like you, consider my smart phone a lifeline.
 
I have been using the full version of "Mobile Fax" for a while now. It works great for a camera photo -> Fax purpose, although you are limited in the number of pages you can send per day (8 I think). The quality is pretty decent, although you will need to toy around with the settings a little to get it just right. The only real problem with it, is that it does not have an option to receive faxes. :(

For the reception part, I would second Coach McGuirk's solution to use a web fax service that forwards to email that is synced to your phone.

Yep... would be pure gold.
 
roboPrint will support Fax/Send and Receive including basic OCR in a future version. Unfortunately I don't have a release date just yet.
 
I have a the free version of eFax account.. it e-mails the faxes as .efx files. Does anyone know of a way I can view these files on the android?
 
I just downloaded Scanr but was unable to create an account to use it because their web site is down. Further searching suggest this may be permanent. Waste of time!
 
Try "Camscanner Full" this is a paid app that will allow you to fax for a small fee. I love the app, even though I haven't tried the fax function.
