I've tried EVERY method on here for trying to connect my phone to Kies and they all fail.

I've tried deleting all long files, does f**k all. I've formatted my SD card, did f**k all. I've tried updating the drivers, did f**k all.

Why can't Samsung just make a patch for this or something?

This is the worst software in the world, it doesn't even do its ONE sole job.

All I want to do is update to 2.2 but God forbid that I should be able to connect my phone.

I've phoned up the nearest Samsung Repair Centre and will go down tomorrow (Sunday).

I agree, the software is awful.
You can go to a service centre and have the upgrade done while you wait if you want.

Are you running any other launcher instead of Touchwiz? I had to disable Launcherpo to get Kies to connect.

Nope, I reset my phone before trying to use Kies, after everything else had failed.

Sometimes if kies wont connect I unplug the usb cable leaving kies running, then reconnect in mass storage mode. Then close down mass storage mode, pull out the usb cable, reinsert it and connect to kies. It always seems to work for me.
