Help File copying issues w/dock

I'm enjoying the TF201 and dock my wife surprised me with, overall. But I'm having real issues moving files around with it and ports on the dock.

Copying files is slow at the best of times, and fails outright more often than not - using the stock file manager, or others like ES file manager. For example, I tried loading a 4.5GB video file into the internal storage from an SD card in the dock, with no success. I finally got it to copy over wifi, from a file share, and it looks great. But when I tried to copy it out onto a flash drive plugged into the dock, it failed after maybe 18%.

(Copying files over USB via MTP is a no-go - well, at least for now, on Linux. The transfer speed is slower than to a floppy disk, about 2KB/sec.)

I don't have a MicroSD card for the tablet itself yet, but I shouldn't need one. Why can't I use media plugged into the dock?

File transfer appears to be the (my?) Prime's weak link. I did finally manage to copy a that 4.5 GB out onto an SD card last night. First, I did a 'paperclip reset', hitting the recessed reset button, and let it finish booting. Then I started a copy.

It got to around 52% copied, and I touched the screen... and it gave me the standard error message, "File copy failed." So I tried one more time... and left it entirely alone for half an hour while it copied. That time it succeeded. It looks like any multitasking whatsoever during a large copy will kill it. That's... suboptimal.

For grins, I hooked up my old Droid 1 to the dock in USB mode, set it up for connection... and while the Droid claimed to be available, the Prime never saw it. Definitely some issues there. At least it did see my friend's flash drive a few days ago, though (just like with an SD card) I couldn't copy a large file onto it.
