File Explorers can't write to SD card?

I'm not rooted. I have ES FILE EXPLORERS and RootExplorer. Neither can create a folder on my SD card. How do I grant them permission?
 
Have you formatted your SD card on the phone?
Also, when you launched the File explorer, did you deny it any permissions? If so, go to settings/apps and tap on the explorer app, and review the permissions that are denied. The file explorer will need read/write permissions to storage at the very minimum
