Help File name too long

Rhonda1964

Newbie
Hi, I've been lurking around the forums for a while, reading up on rooting but generally holding out for the 2.2 update (ha ha ha). I finally decided I don't care about the 2.2 update and I decided to root and maybe try Icarus.

I would not be considering rooting and flashing a new mod if it weren't for all of the helpful people I've been following on this forum. You guys are great and have made me feel so much better about this pos phone I'm stuck with.

But prior to rooting, I wanted to have a bigger sd card so I went and bought a bigger card. I decided to make a copy of everything on my sd card so I can have a back up before I change cards and root and all of that. When I went to copy the files on my sd card to a backup folder on my pc, I got a message that 47 items could not be copied because the file names were too long. I tried twice with the same results. The only file name listed on that error message was something like "res." (not a very long file name.)

I recently backed up my contacts to my sd card and thought maybe that had something to do with it. Has anyone else had this problem? Now I'm afraid to switch to my new 8gb card now, much less to root or anything else. I'm Not sure what was not copied into the backup folder except "res".

I have not rooted yet so I have not installed Titanium backup. Any insight into what's going on is appreciated.

Nice to meet you guys,
Rhonda

Edit: OK, no reason to panic. I got the cards switched out and it doesn't appear that I lost anything. Now on to rooting. Wish me luck.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I'm rooted, titanium backup installed. I'll have to finish backing up tomorrow. Must sleep.

Nite, nite.
