Help File Transfer...... MANY MANY PROBLEMS

duane

Lurker
So I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2, (I know) and I'm trying to transfer files from a computer to my phone, for music. I plug in the phone and it says connected as media device (on rare occasions it doesn't?), but the computer doesn't install it, so the phone doesn't show up under Computer (Windows,7.hereswhereit gets extra tricky. I have no computer, so I have to use a computer at a library. So there could be the problem right there. But on a few occasions it will show up, and then, there it is. Yay But of course there's still problems. It rarely shows me anything. I open the storage up on the computer, and it's blank, no files, no nothing. I've been able to do it twice before, that's it. I've tried to look for usb mass storage under settings, but its non existent on my phone. If yopu can, help.

It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Chances are, the library IT staff got smart and blocked access from external devices. I'm sure you can see why that might be considered a "problem" on a private network that is accessed by the public.

Library, hotel and other public computers can often be very locked down, MTP drivers disabled etc. In fact sometimes they even have the USB ports glued up or sealed, to prevent anything being plugged in. Basically to prevent the spread of viruses, worms etc, unauthorized software, infringing copyright with downloading music etc.

And you can probably guarantee that even if the library had wi-fi the network would be unavailable. Best options are to buy a PC, speak nicely to a friend with a PC or download music direct to the device

Ah right, most libraries pcs are wired. Perhaps classic way to send those music via email and you can download it later. But Pugs1957 still right best option is to buy a laptop or make your own pc. It's cheap and also an investment.

WeLine will work via the Internet using 3G or LTE cellular data, the cloud. If the phone and PC are not on WiFi, it gives you a website you go to with the PC, weline.cc, scan the QR code the browser shows you with the WeLine app. Be aware it is using cellular data so may cost you, and is using a third-party server, that's possibly in China. So it could be usable if you do want to transfer things too and from the library, hotel or other public PC.

BTW..FYI about WeLine.

It actually has another mode called direct mode, both devices has to be connected in the same network. This mode does require cellular data.
