Help file transfer with linux

I finally figured out how to do USB file transfers with WinXP. When I plug into my Linux (fedora 16), a file system connection appears to start, but it rapidly fails. Is there something I can install? Any other suggestions?

I can't give you instuctions here. It's too complicated and difficult with Fedora 16 - not impossible, but takes effort and I'm not into a long discussion right now. If you really want to try it, Google around for instructions.

Problem is that Fedora 16 is old, it came out before Android went from USB mass storage to MTP for file transfer. When I was still on Fedora 15 I just gave up on it, more hassle than it was worth. Fedora 20 and just-released 21 support MTP and make it far simpler. You might give serious consideration to updating your Fedora version.

I just transfer stuff to and from my Fedora 20 box using cloud storage. Airdroid works really well also if you have WiFi at home. Simple, no cable to fool with.
