Help Filming for extended periods without camera turning off

Is there any way to film continuously until the internal memory card is full? I turned developer options on so I could avoid the screen timing-out after the default maximum of 1hr - but the camera still asks me "to tap the screen to reactivate camera."

I'm thinking I should use a dedicated app from Google Play, rather than the phone's internal factory camcorder app?

All I want to do is film one long, uninterrupted segment until whatever memory card I have inserted is at 100% capacity. Please help :)
 
I don't think smart phones/smart phone cameras were designed with this in mind.

What exactly is it you're looking to do though? There might be alternatives or workarounds. For example, if you need to record for security, there are probably apps out there that activate the camera based on movement.
 
While i didn't find exactly what you're looking for, this "spy cam" app allows for recording even when the screen is turned off.

From looking in the settings, it appears the max video size is 4000mb, but has an option for 'auto continue recording' (pro feature) which simply starts a new video when the first finishes

Thanks for replying. I want to be able to film an entire sunset and sunrise to create a time lapse. Would also like to film the house all day to see how dogs escape cage. Also, want to film out the peephole on the door because we've had issues with theft on our road lately... Basically several reasons why this would be so useful. I have the large memory card ready, just don't know how to film in prolonged continuous segments.
 
Give the app Lordvincent suggested a go, see if that works.

Alternatively, you might be able to set something up with tasker. It's late here and I'm working tomorrow but I can have a mess about with it tomorrow if you want.

Now I just need to find a way a rooting moron like me can root and unlock the potential of my HTC One M8.... :(
