Is there a way to filter searches based on the degree of privacy invasion by app makers? It's a little disconcerting knowing that so many apps are wanting access to my private information on my phone and I'd like to be able to filter out the apps based on certain criteria. Frankly, it's kind of creepy that so many apps are wanting to control various aspects of MY phone that I paid for.

Also, I bought an HTC Vivid from AT&T. The phone is cool, but I'm not down with unable to remove apps like facebook and twitter. I don't ever use those apps on my phone but fb seems to always run in the background which pisses me off.

There a great app by one of our staff called Pocket Permissions that can help you out with that. I don't know if it allows filtering, though. If you have specific questions, send alostpacket a PM and he'll help you out.

Just because Facebook is listed doesn't mean it's actually running. It just means it's cached in memory. If you never use it, it will eventually be bumped out for something with higher priority. It's really not doing anything but taking up space. You have to be careful with removing carrier apps. Sometimes they provide necessary services that aren't apparent and when you remove them, it could disable certain features or the phone entirely. I always recommend users to post a list of apps they want to remove here before they pull the trigger, just to make sure it's safe.
