Apps Finally finished the App, Now what?

C3guy

Lurker
Me and my friends have finally made the app to the specifications that we wanted. However now we have encountered a dilemma, what to do next. I have done research on the next steps. I know that for monetization Interstitial ads are the best. I know that we have to debug our app among other things. However I have all this information but it's hard to wrap my mind around the publishing process, monetization process etc. It just seems so cluttered in my mind. If you guys would, could you give me a general game plan, strategy, and details on the development, publishing and monetization of an app. If you guys could could you also inform me about starting a google developer account, the $25 fee, and if we require a google wallet account and how the google wallet account works exactly.

Much appreciation to any of you who could be so kind.

Thanks El Presidente, this is my first time and I'm glad that people here are so nice that they would be willing to help in any way. Many thanks.

Cheers!:)

Hey C3guy!

Congrats on developing an app. I've developed a few apps and I've found that the hardest part was to get from 90% to 100% completion. Kudos on completing it!

Now that you've finished it, you should decide what you want to get out of the app. If you're looking at monetizing you broadly have 3 options:

1. Charge for the app: If your app offers some great service and has a design and usability that is unmatched, then you can charge for the app. The advantage here is that you will make money of every unit of app that you've sold. The con of course is that people might be unwilling to spend blind on an app.

2. IAP: In-app purchases is a great way to make money from your app. If you have a value-added service that you can offer for a price, then you can take this route. This way people who are comfortable using your app will be willing to pay a little extra for that value-added service. One con is that it will require some extra programmatic effort, but i'm sure you will figure that out.

3. Ads: Ah. The dreaded ad network. If you have an app that you think will get many downloads, showing ads on it is a superb way to monetize. You will get paid per click (CPC) or per mille impression (eCPM). Making money through ads is a science in itself. There are many ad networks out there and many ad companies too. HasOffers recently released their list of Top 25 ad network companies. Take a look here. Google AdWords is first followed by InMobi. The disadvantage of showing ads of course is that there is a aversion to ads by the users. Although if done carefully you can serve ads without any annoyance to the user.

Hope that helped :)

Great insight SohanM!
Just to clear up a little more about ad networks: when it comes to the different payment models ad networks generally offer their publishers: CPC (cost-per-click), CPM (cost-per-mille, per 1000 impressions), or CPI (cost-per-install). The last one is the most commonly chosen by advertisers since it reassures they get what they pay for - direct installs of their app. As you said, the whole monetizing process is ..a juggle and it's hard to predict or plan. You will need to carefully track your app's performance and adjust settings for the right ad campaigns :smokingsomb:

There is one more payment model that seems quite efficient: PPD (pay-per-download) which grants you revenue for your own app installs, I know AppFlood started offering this kind of SDK lately, you can learn more about it here: Splash Screen SDK

Good luck with your app monetization C3guy!
