Why not have a sensor on the bottom right screen for unlocking the phone as well? It will make it to where if some one breaks their screen, or if the sensor in the back gets damaged, they can still unlock the phone from the front. It works all around for damages done to phone's just in case people still need to get in and find information, unbind google accounts, transfer information to a new device, etc. I believe it to be a pretty good idea if it's placed near the bottom right of the screwn or even near the top right seeing as there is space for one there as well.

Why bottom right? Very awkward for people who hold the phone in their right hand. And while your phone may have space at the top right not everyone's will (and many phones are so tall that that's inaccessible too).

Anyway look at a teardown of a phone sometime and you'll know why they don't put extra sensors in "just in case" - the fact that there's nothing visible on the outside doesn't mean that there is empty space there inside. And I'm sure this would be dismissed by most as a weird niche gimmick - which means it adds to cost without significantly increasing sales. If you are worried about being locked out due to damage the best solution is to have a reliable backup regime (which also covers you against loss, theft, hardware failure or more serious damage to the phone, none of which an extra sensor will help with)

One of the nice aspects with Android phones is the availability of a wide range of phones with varying configurations and features. If you really don't like a particular feature, don't get a phone that has it, or if it's something on your current phone be sure to look at models that are more to your liking whenever you do upgrade to a new(er) phone. But if it is something on your current phone that really bugs you than, yeah, that sucks. It's hard to find a 'perfect' phone (we all have different needs and expectations) but if you put a little effort into it there's usually something out there that's close.

It's the "as well" that's the problem - I don't know of any phone with a backup fingerprint scanner in case something happens to the primary one, and in a world where physical keyboards are considered too niche to be worth providing and many manufacturers are trying to dispense with the headphone jack I can't really see anyone picking that one up. Just being realistic.

Given the current manufacturer obsession for all display, no bezels, but have notches, and punch hole displays, I somehow don't think that's going to happen. That's why the fingerprint sensor was moved to the rear on many devices.

The sensor is increasingly moving under the display. Though at present even the best under-display readers aren't as good as are conventional one.

Personally I'm fine with a reader on the back: I put my finger on it as I pick the phone up, and it's unlocked by the time I'm looking at the screen. But I expect that in a couple of years under the display will be the norm.

i love where my note 8's sensor is. it is placed perfectly on the back and makes it easier to pickup and just slide my finger over the sensor to unlock.

I agree. It would be a better option for it to be there. I ususally hold my phone in my left hand due to the fact that i usually use my right pointer finger or thumb to touch, use apps, play game's. There's options on the bottom left and a camera at the top left so the right side is really the only option. It also does depend on the phone. Any company willing to put in extra security features that people like is most likely to hace that style take over the industry like touch screen's did vs touch screen with keypad. My camera in the back has been damaged on phone's and that sensor isn't to far off for the LG Stylo 4+.
I'm just thinking a little sensor pad on the front won't be a bad option for those used to opening their phone's from the front anyway.

Activate screen on the right side of the phone, move finger a little over an inch to use finger sensor top right or bottom. I found top right is easier.
