Show business is real life for the people who make it happen. And for the people in the business who don't make the millions of dollars that the star does, the ones for whom the job is what gives them food clothing and shelter, it's a very real and very important matter.
To put it another way, if I'm given a choice about what species gets priority, it will be homo sapiens every time. I love my pets, but the well being of actual people takes precedence.

I also question whether it's right to prolong the agony for the dog, which at 14 is at the end of its natural life span anyway.
Today (actually yesterday in my time zone) ex-boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho was taken off of life support and promptly died. It was considered to be the humane thing to do. IJSGood point. If you have to stop and actually take care of the dog because it can't eat or move on its own, it's time to go bye bye at the vet's.
