Firefox OS

So who else has tried Firefox OS and what version.
I've tried it on Firefox Dev Edition Web IDE. Versions 2.0 and 2.2. It's well horrible I think. But I suppose it's a £30 phone and you can't expect too much.
I guess they'd make a great backup phone

And let's face it. It's better than a Nokia Asha

I've played with it off and on on my Nexus 4 but have never stuck with it for more than a day. I know that I'm clearly not the target audience for Firefox OS (I use way too many native apps to be able to just depend on web apps) but I was definitely disappointed. It's just not usable enough for me.

For someone who needs a phone to make/receive calls/texts and occasionally browse the web or check their email, though, it does seem like it would be a pretty fantastic option.

I agree. That's why I think it'd also make a good backup. I'm tempted to get one to use just in case I hard brick my phone. I mean I have **** all on my phone anyway. I wipe my phone too often to put too much on it so apps aren't a problem. But I'm on a limited tariff so it seems that the HTML5 only apps will eat through it too fast.

It also would make a decent first phone for a kid if you don't want to get them something too expensive.

Asha is intended for low-cost devices, mainly for India, Pakistan and Bangladesh AFAIK. Most Asha phones are dual-SIM, as well as unlocked. Basically because Nokia's Windows phones can be rather expensive in comparison. I presume Firefox OS might be similar, for emerging markets, low-cost devices for places where carrier subsidies are not available, and anyone who doesn't want anything to do with Android and Google, or Chinese devices.
