I think only Chromium is available for Linux (not the official Chrome but some half-functional early version) i tried to use it but for some reason it refuses to see that i am clearly online so nothing loads in it. i had to uninstall it as soon as i realized that.
My Chromium on Linux suddenly started going to Google Hong Kong all by itself, like it was possessed or something. Really odd one. In the end I just cleared all the caches, cookies, etc. and that seemed to fix it.
Chrome is available for Linux, you can install it from Google's website. Most distros have Chromium in the repos, which is open source, and is what Google Chrome is based on.
unless i want to run IE inside Wine, the only options i have are Firefox (most compatible/stable other than the tab glitch) or the inferior Rekonq, which seems ten times slower than IE and lacks compatibility for many sites, and seems incapable of plugin support.
Some web-sites do give problems if you're using some off-beat browser. I've never heard of that one. I can't log into my China Construction Bank account if I'm using Konqueror. It just keeps on saying I need to upgrade my browser. No problems with Chrome or Firefox though, and IE of course.
You're in the States, I don't suppose you'd have seen the Windows browser ballot?
