Root Firmware, Android and Rooting...

How do you update your phone? On HTC Desire, it is possible to update the phone directly from the settings. Since Galaxy S also is using Android, i belive it is possible to update the phone from 2,1 to 2,2 when time is right?

Or do i have to update it from my computer? (using Mac)

Hello,

I have my Galaxy S for about 1 week now and I would like to upgrade the firmware too.
The only thing i'm not sure about is the warning from the tutorial that your phone needs to be sim unlocked (it seems mine is locked to my provider where it was bought). What are the risks if I try to upgrade the firmware with the sim locked phone ?
Is there any was to unlock the phone ?

Thanks.

Hi all

Bit of a question to anyone that has put this latest firmware on their phones. (jm2) i had older firmware, JF3, and downloaded HistoryEraser (no i wasnt downloading pron lol) and now come to the market place to download it again, and its not there? seems its something to do with "whitelists, fingerprints"??? and the firmware not being approved by Google yet.... I think.... this means a lot of apps arent visible in the market place, Is there a way round this without going to earlier firmware????

And sorry for hijacking this thread, thought it was relevant

odd, I was able to re-download my purchases from the market after the flash to M2, its seems rather odd to me that you weren't

Hmmmm,

Yes i cant understand it either, could you see if HistoryEraser is actually still available, and also Battle for Mars (not just the lite version) as both those apps arent visible.....???

Has anyone from the US updated their firmware??

It says on the site: " If you come from America don't flash! (Ask for a firmware in the forums)"

Has anyone here used a firmware update in the US? And if so, which one?

My phone version is: I9000XXJF5

Updated yesterday to XXJM2, and it made the phone faster, the GPS faster, now the GPS works and finds my location just by using WiFi, and the new firmware comes with an app killer widget. This killer comes with a widget that shows how many tasks are running, and you can kill them one by one. However, only apps that you have startet are mentioned, so you do not get the problem of killing important processes like alarms (a common problem with many taskkillers).

The battery is also improved. Now it's 14 hrs since charging, and I still have 83% left. So it has used 17% in 14 hrs - if that continues, it will last for 82 hours (I know that is not realistic, but still it is good).

I updated via Odin, and used the 512 pit file as mentioned above.

Well, I finally did bite the bullet, and I have updated to XXJM2. It has made the phone faster. My battery has improved as well. Over all, much, much better.

I also updated via Odin, using the 512 pit file.

Thanks to bobtodd for supplying the footage... Very helpful for a newbie like me :-)
