Help firmware update failed through Kies

I have a samsung galaxy S2 i9100G. Kies indicated a firmware upgrade ( Kl3) is available. however when tried to update, Kies is throwing error.
Error: Time out, firmware updation failed! :(:(
Current firmware: DZKJ2

Time out error sound like they couldn't establish a proper connection with the server. That might be due to poor internet connection and speed or server overload. It might also be due to restriction to your internet connection like firewall at your work place.

Only thing I can think off is for you to try again later and make sure its a fast and consistent internet line.

Hey Russell,

I will try again disabling the firewall. Would like to know if you also have the Galaxy S2 i9100G. If yes what is the firmware version on your phone ?

You are right Russel. The G version runs on 2.3.6.
Kies popped out with a new firmware version KL3 when i connected my phone.
I will check again and will post the error message i get.

Hello everybody. I was suffering the never ending quest to get Kies to update my phones firmware (galaxy s2). plenty of battery, plenty of memory. Damn thing would timeout everytime between 1% and 20%. It once teased me and got all the way to 52%. I have been trying repeatedly for about two days.

Found this guide for F.O.T.A. (Firmware Over The Air) on the samsung website. I like feature 3. "No need for connection with PC". It uses Wi-Fi or your data service to download the firmware and then asks to reboot so it can install. took about 15 minutes over Wi-Fi (download and install). Kies (v2.2.012014_18) confirms I have the latest firmware installed. I am off to glue the tufts of hair back on my head.

This F.O.T.A. option is not available on my TMobile Gax S2.

I have just wasted a whole night trying to update my firmware through the Kies software. The update process always fails at some random point in the process. Sometimes I will have "timed out" error messages, sometimes other error messages. Very aggravating.

After the process fails the phone will be disconnected from its USB connection, and be working on re-connecting. But I have no trouble with it disconnecting at other times. So, it seems the Kies software is somehow disconnecting the phone. I rebooted my laptop once, the phone numerous times. Tried it with USB debugging selected and unselected. Nothing works. Anybody have any idea as to what is going on?

Give this suggestion a try: If you're using Windows, go to Device Manager; proceed to Universal Serial Bus controllers. You'll see a number of "USB Root Hubs". Double click on each one, and in the "Power Management" tab, uncheck the option where Windows can turn off the device to save power. That might help your USBs from disconnecting randomly.
