Firmware update help needed!

Hey guys, I am from the UK, I have downloaded Kies and it finds my phone fine. It says I have the latest firmware on Kies, but I hear I am supposed to be on gingerbread or something now? On my phone it says I am on Froyo and my Android version is 2.2.1?

I am using Windows 7.

There are several updates available is yours on Telco mobile? You might need to unlock the phone first to update via odin . There are tutorials for both unlock and update available. Mine was locked to tesco but now open and running 2.3.6

So there reason it won't update is because of it being locked to Tesco Mobile?

If I was to unlock it, would it then update via kies?

No,Tesco only show the 2.2.1 FROYO as their last update for this phone you will need to manually update using ODIN and one of the stock or custom ROMs available, The update procedure is on this forum.(as is the unlock procedure)

Once after you sim-unlock your device then you can follow the link at my signature and read through step by step instrucitons on upgrading via ODIN.

Note that it won't update via Kies even if you unlock your device until an official update is available from your carrier.
