First android experience was only alright, some advice please

So I'm writing this to get a bit of advice from other android users. My first android is my current thunderbolt. I was excited as hell to get this phone, and when I first got it I loved it because I waited so long for it. Now it has begun to annoy me with it's freezing and restarting, not to mention simple things like opening messages can take what seems like an eternity. It also does this annoying thing every once in a while where I have to hit the the keyboard buttons really hard for them to show up, and it still takes a second or so for them to show up. I tried some things to get the phone running well again but nothing has really worked.

So my question is this, and I'm hoping the answer is no. Do all android phones eventually get all buggy and laggy? Or is it just the thunderbolt, I thought it may be because it seems like the thunderbolt has been plagued with problems since its release. I like android a lot, and I don't want to switch to iPhone(for obvious reasons) and windows phones have subpar specs for me. I don't want this one phone to ruin my android experience. I'm on the brink of upgrading to the galaxy nexus, but before I do I want to be sure that my thunderbolt is somewhat of an isolated experience.

I can't speak for other phones but my Incredible 2 has been running flawlessly for about a year now. I feel your issues are with the phone you have and not Android in general. I too have read a lot of negative things about the Thunderbolt. I agree with you in the phone seems very buggy. I had a feeling it might being the first 4G LTE phone to come out. I'm always leery about any first product of a new technology.

Don't give up on Android from this one bad experience. If you are looking for a new phone do lots of research. Visit the sub-sections of this forum for the different phones and read what people are posting about. I've found this to be a great way to judge how a phone is.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

Nice to have you aboard. Sorry to hear that you're having all these problems with your device. I can tell you this much - the freezing and sluggishness can happen on any smartphone - not only Android.

No one knows for sure what cause these annoyances. It could be just about anything -- an application, defective device, etc. Most times if I'm having problems with my phone feeling slow or freezing, I just remove and reinsert the battery. If I feel like the problem had started after recently installing an app, then I'll go and Uninstall that app - to see if the problem still persists.

If it comes to a point where the issue becomes unbearable, you should reset the device to its factory default settings. Eight out of Ten times this usually fixes the problem. Keep in mind that doing a reset of the device will delete all your data. If "resetting" the phone doesn't work then you should get the device either repair or replace.

I hope this annoyance don't have you thinking that all Android phones are sluggish and unresponsive - because they are not.
Best of luck. Happy Holidays. ;)

do you think you might have ... installed to many apps.. and the system is getting low on resources??

there might be an app that is being bad.. and messing with your phone.. bad programming.. or it installed itself incorrectly.

are you using a task killer?? are you killing off apps in the background??

is it still under warranty? maybe some hardware.. is bad in it?

are you in a bad coverage area? sometimes when the phone is looking for a signal.. it can be busy.. and act laggy

It depends on how you used it. I've been using smartphones for like 5-6 years now (Yep, I hailed from Symbian's old glory days), and one thing I noticed is that similar to Symbian, on Android, if you install, uninstall, install stuff, remnants get left behind, which eventually clogs up the system. When an app is trying to access memory, there's so much stuff in there to sift through that the phone slows down. Even when you think they're clean, there's those little invisible files left (kinda like windows .ini files, where they're so small but they're so many).

Also I noticed that when I updated my Android phone to the latest OS without a hard reset first, it was alternately slower and then faster. Mostly its faster on native apps and services, but when you go into some third party app, they hang up and stuff. Apparently the UDP on Android has a possibility of effing up the updates, just like on old smartphones too. Seems that for every OS update, a clean install is still the best, even if you're not flashing a new ROM and just updating via official methods.

I'm not using anything like task killer, I've heard things about it so I avoided it. I don't have many applications, probably less than the average person. The bugginess really began after they updated the software to 2.3. I really think this just happens to be a buggy phone in general, but I want to be sure other users have good experiences with their androids before I renew my contract for one.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies btw!

yes.. i have heard a lot of bad things from the update... to 2.3

you might want to root it.. and find a good custom ROM.. they fix most of the bugs for you.
or
you can throw a custom ROM of 2.2 back on it.
