first battery charge

My new Captivate is plugged in, charging, for the first time. The instructions said to charge it before turning it on. It's been charging for several hours, and there is no indicator of status. I've read about the alert, but does it work when the phone is off? Will I know when it's fully charged?

Different phones seem to have different levels of charge out of the box. Nothing wrong with turning it on and seeing how full it is. It would be good to charge it all the way up first, but you can have it on while charging. Don't bite your nails just waiting for it to top off. Enjoy!

Same thing I did. If your charging it with the power adaptor then just press the power button once and it shows you the battery in the middle of.the.screen.
