First boot. Problem?

Ok guys.
I thought my Desire HD was charging (first ever charge), when it wasn't, and so I turned it on. I got as far as choosing my language before realising it wasn't charging and immediately turned it off.

I then plugged it into my PC, and now the orange 'charge' light is on.

I would like to know:
-Have I messed up the phone at all my turning it on while it wan't charging/charged?
-How do I use the mains charger, because it wasn't charging at the beginning (even though I thought it was)..

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think you would of damaged it. Chill ;)

Probably wasn't pushed in far enough first time or the cable was in a position where the electricity wasn't flowing as well as it could of been. :)
