Greetings forum members, this is day 3 with my samsung galaxy s. I'm still in the learning curve. My first big question is - how do I force the phone to only use wifi for data? Looking forward to interesting discussions.
Cheers

Welcome to the Android Forums!

If you are in close proximity to a wireless access point that you authenticated to, all data should go across the wireless connection. To shut down data access on the phone, go to App Drawer -> Settings -> Data Manager -> Data Delivery and uncheck "data enabled" (that's the process for my Droid X). Aside from blocking data access this will also prohibit your ability to send/receive MMS messages (text messages with attachments). A way around that might be to use a widget similar to the following...

Toggle Data Widget - Android app on AppBrain
