Root First root help me make sure I'm doing it right.

I went here

http://androidforums.com/droid-3-all-things-root/408712-root-ultimate-droid3-root-rom-thread.html

Downloaded Petes Tools and Drivers are installed, Windows 7 recognizes my phone. It's in Charge Mode (as it should be, correct?).

NOW! Should I back up my phone now before rooting? If so with what tool (links and instructions if possible)

The ROM I wanted to try first was Monster ROM but if you guys think I should go another route please tell me!

I just want to make sure I do this right the first time. I have been doing some reading but A LOT of this is like reading Chinese because I don't understand the lingo because I'm a new Droid User.

Well for the first step, the root is very easy! Just Click "Root My Phone", No backup needed! Backups can only be done after your rooted.

As for ROMS, I am personally waiting for CyanogenMod. Its the best rom for android and it will be released soon for Droid 3, but your choice.

Rooted perfectly. I'm gonna wait on my direct deposit tomorrow and pay for the Titanium Backup Pro. Then I can back everything up that I want and freeze apps correct? I'll wait for the CyanogenMod because Dad has that on his Droid X and he FLYS around it's seriously insane.

That's why I want to root and ROM so bad because his phone is old and it was just WHOOOPIN my phone on everything.

You may have already discovered this, but my D3 would not charge in my vehicle USB port as long as USB debugging was turned on (and you needed that to root your phone.) It looked like it was charging, but the battery kept dropping instead of going up. Turn off USB debuggin while in vehicle and phone charges right up, even while playing an audio book over the BT connection to the vehicle. (Never saw this problem on the D1)

I used TI Pro to backup and then froze the bloat and discovered that it was best NOT to move apps to the SD card (really media storage) because I kept getting weirdness updating the apps. The messages made me think I needed to move more things out of phone storage, which was exactly the wrong thing to do.

Since you are rooted, you probably want ADFREE too, since it is so nice to be rid of the ads.

I haven't tried any ROMS yet. Just waiting for a fully functional CWM. But without the VZN bloat this phone hums along very nicely and it isn't even over-clocked yet! No real lag even with live wallpaper and Moto blur!

Can someone help me out? I rooted my droid 3 with the one click method and followed the directions very closly. I installed titanium backup and unistaller for a rooted droid and both programs say i'm not rooted. However, root checker in the market says that superuser and busybox are both installed correctly. Please help!

Do you have the most recent version of BusyBox? Also, did you possibly decline SU rights to those programs via the black pop up? You can change this by going into the SU app.
