Help First tablet and needing some help with battery

Hi there,

I just got my first Tablet ever. I have used Thunderbolt smart phone for about 2 years. It's new first generation Nexus 7 that I got on sale since second generation came out. It's running 4.3 btw

I did some research thought it would fit my needs. I am having major problem though with the battery life. I don't know if I am expecting too much or if something is wrong with the battery/tablet. I turned off GPS/Bluetooth/display low etc etc. I read some saying they could get days worth of use out of it using it few hours a day.

I however just did some testing and running Moon Reader (e reader application) in 7 minutes lost 3% power. If I play a plants vs zombies for about 10 minutes I'll lose about 5 percent.

It's much worse than my Thunderbolt without any applications running in the background.

Was hoping I could get some information on if it's normal. I don't know much about tablets. Don't know if I should return it for another, return it and get another phone/laptop.

I planned on using it for school and won't be able to charge it at times for 6 hours. At this rate it doesn't have chance of making it through. So not sure and was hoping for some help/advice :)

That doesn't sound right - from what you describe, it sounds like the screen is burning way too much power.

Have you checked Settings .. Battery to see what the O/S thinks is using all the juice? It's possible it's a rogue app ..

If it does look like the screen, I think I would either return the tablet for a replacement (if you got it within the last few days) or for a warranty repair (if you've had it for a while) - it may well be that there's an issue with the battery.

Yeah, that seems short. I usually end up with 6-7 hours of screen-on time before I need to recharge (which, for me, is usually between 2 and 3 days of actual time), on my 2012 model. Haven't used the 2013 model long enough to have a good handle on that yet.

From what you're describing, you're losing about 1% every 2 minutes, which would equate to ~200 minutes of screen-on time, about half of what I'm getting.

Definitely check your Settings > Battery as described above. Is the battery draining quickly when the screen is off? Has it always been this way since day 1?
