First time android device, how to manage media?

I knew I'd end up here seeking advice sooner or later. Just got a new LG nexus 4 android phone. Another clincher, I use a mac. I discovered a nifty little app ANDROID FILE TRANSFER for mac, and used it to copy a test mp4 movie over to the phone's movie folder.

Now, on the phone, Im looking for some way to play it.
I was hunting around in the pre-installed android apps on this phone for some type of file explorer app.
Doesn't seem to be one.

Is there a file/folder explorer that is standard with the android apps, something Im not seeing here, or does a file explorer app need to be downloaded from the android app store?

Or is there some other media player android app either already on the phone or available from the store?

My next question will be, which pre-installed apps can I remove?
i.e.
LOCAL
CURRENTS
PLAY MOVIES & TV (seems to be some movie purchase site)
PLAY MUSIC (also seems to be a purchase site)

Also, what might be some "must have" apps for an android phone?

Im really looking for a good podcast downloader/player for android.
On my previous phone I used RssRadio, but that app doesn't seem to be available in the android store.
With RssRadio I could download NBC Nightly News either video file or just the audio file. I would like to do the same on this phone.
I did not find an android version of RssRadio in the store, surprisingly.

Thanks in advance!

On the phone should be a gallery app which shows pics and videos.

Better, install from Play Store
a file manager like ES File Explorer,
a video player like MX Player
a pic viewer like QuickPic.

Preinstalled apps can't be deinstalled without rooting the phone.
But you'd disable these apps ... Settings, Apps, All, choose an app and use the Disable button.
Some app's updates must be uninstalled before they can be disabled.

Thanks Harry.
Yes I now see the gallery and the test video does play using that.
Any advice on podcast players?

I like ACast for podcast. There are a lot of podcatchers. Most of them are paid, ACast is free though. Double Twist is a music player that can also manage podcasts. You have to pay for some of Double Twist's features.
