Help First time Android user.POP Email question

ken17golf

Lurker
I was using the stock email program with my long time email, which is a POP type email.

Is there no way to make and name folders to store emails?

Also, my emails disappearing from my inbox when my emails are downloaded to my PC is pretty aggravating too. My iphone didnt do this. How come if I put an email in the trash and then sync the email on my PC it deletes emails off my inbox folder and not the ones in the trash? Do I need to just start saving my emails I want to keep on my phone in the trash folder?

My current workaround is having all my emails forwarded to my Gmail account and app, but It seems like there has to be a better way. But one more question, when I archive an email in gmail, where does it go?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately POP does not support a folder structure outside of the basic standard folders (inbox, sent, etc). For folder support you need to switch to IMAP4 or exchange.

As far as the deleted emails are concerned I suspect you are using outlook and that is the problem. You need to go into account settings in outlook, select the account you want to modify and and under the advanced tab you will see an option to leave emails on the server.

Ok, so no custom folders on the phone are ok for me.

And ok I'll check out my settings in outlook and see if I can get it to only delete the message from the server when I delete it and not when it's downloaded to the pc.

Thanks, sure has been quite a change coming from iOS.

Try out 'MyMail' from the Play Store

that was just suggested in another thread currently running today.

I did, and I immediately pitched all of the other email apps. I never did like the way Yahoo's app worked. MyMail is a century ahead of the other apps out there.

im trying to get MyMail app to work with my company email. the stock app has all the spots for me to enter the information..

where do i put domain/username in..

and the exchange server?

Found this:

myMail is confirmed to support all popular email services:
— Google mail (Gmail, Google Apps for business and education)
— Microsoft (Outlook, Hotmail, MSN, Office 365 and Live)
— Ymail (Yahoo mail)
— AOL mail
— GMX
— Mail.com
— Apple (iCloud, Me.com and Mac.com)
— My mail (@My.com)

Your email application will automatically set up IMAP, POP and SMTP settings. As such, it supports most corporate email servers, such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange, provided that the administrators have IMAP and SMTP enabled.

If the app fails to connect to your mailbox, please, send details, including your email address, IMAP, SMTP and POP e-mail settings direct mail to androidmail@corp.my.com. The issue will be established and your setting will be adjusted manually.

it says it supports microsoft exchange.. however, when i try to add my work email account. it just says it is incorrect. there is no where that i can add domain name.. webmail.irco.com and my username la**x and such.

its a really nice app. and i would like to use it. but.. oh well.

did you read the last paragraph of my post? It says the company will make it work for you.

i did email them.. finally got a reply today.. that states this..

Sorry, the Microsoft Exchange protocol isn't supported at this time. We're
working in this direction, but development could take a significant amount of
time.
