Root First Time ClockWorkMod Recovery Installation Problems

bengay

Lurker
Hi All,

I want to move from the Vibrant stock rom to a new rom.
I rooted my device and instaled Rom Manager.

When I press Flash ClockWorkMod recovery, for Vibrant I have 2 options:

1. Galaxy S Vibrant
2. Vibrant (MTD)

which one should I use?
If i follow Cyanogen instruction and MTD, i get a message saying:
"Vibrant (MTD) does not have an officially supported ClockWorkMod recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockWorkMod based recovery manuually?"

well.. i havn't.. :) (this is the first time I'm trying to flash a rom.

How do I continue from here? what is the difference between "Galaxy S Vibrant" and "Vibrant MTD")?

Thank you all for you support!!

I also have the same problem too I already rooted and automatic have superuser so that is ok. but the flashing part is hard for me i can't seem to get it to cm7 recovery....i download the zip in the nightly site...and i flash clockwork mod recovery and choose "vitbrant mtd" then go to reboot into recovery then it the phone restart byself then i "reinstall package" then it reboot byself and went back to phone screen. after that i go "Install rom from sd card" and choose the file update-cm-7.1.0-vibrant.l..but then after i went and check all...and then reboot by self and went back to android system recovery. it keep going to system recovery but not sm7 mod recovery....what should i do.....

:DYou guys need to do the following::D

Method via ROM Manager

  1. Launch ROM Manager.
  2. Choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update to the latest version.
    1. Select Vibrant (MTD).
    2. Select Yes.
    3. Select ClockworkMod 2.x
    4. Select OK.
  3. Select the Download ROM option from the main menu in the ROM Manager.
  4. Select the CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of CyanogenMod from the menu. Optional: When you select the latest version of CyanogenMod, check the Google Apps option.
  5. Once the ROM is finished downloading, it asks if you would like to Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache.
  6. If Superuser prompts for root permissions check to Remember and then Allow.
  7. The Samsung Vibrant will now reboot into the recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it's finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod.
  8. Launch ROM Manager.
  9. Choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update to the latest version.
    1. Select Vibrant (MTD).
    2. Select Yes.
    3. Select ClockworkMod 3.x
    4. Select OK.
    5. And you Done!:D

You need to select (Samsung Vibrant) then Reboot into Recovery mod and hit reinstall packages and it will load Clockworkmod automaticaly.

Y:Du need to do the same again on ROM Manager press on Flash ClockworkMod then choose Vibrant then press Reboot into recovery mode.
then when you get into recovery mode press on the install or reinstall packages it will be the 2nd option.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm having some of these issues as well. I loaded Rom manager and did the flash for clockwork recovery. When I reboot it goes to the stock recovery screen. When I choose the reinstall packages option it loads a few seconds then says

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature varifaction failed
Installation aborted

I've even tried the CyanogenMod way and nothing happened. It booted into recovery then stopped. There was no reboot, I had to choose the option to restart and it started back into the stock OS

What the heck am I doing wrong here?

My phone has been laggin horribly and you will click on things and it will jump back to the home screen. I'm ready to venture to the Rom world in hopes of enjoying my phone again

You aren't doing anything wrong. If you updated your phone to the official froyo (2.2) then you will need to downgrade to 2.1 stock. You can find the files and an instructional in the vibrant 3G flashing station on our website.
