My son and I will be going to a Orioles/Yankees game in like aug or sept. I forgot when but its our companys employee day thing. So beings this is my first time going to a MLB game what is there to do. Like do players come out and sign balls and how is the best way to ask them if they do.What kinda pen is good on a baseball. I have no clue as what to do as I never been to one and want to make it as enjoyable as I can for my son thats 7. I am not looking for the Arod or jeter autos. Anyone that would sign I would be grateful to them just to have my son enjoy it.

Also can you take a DSLR camera with you in to the park? Any other suggestions I would be grateful.

You can take any kind of camera with you to the park. As far as signatures go, it's going to be very hard since your only chance to get sigs is during Batting Practice aka BP. Your son should definitely make a sign stating "It's my first MLB game!"

By the way, BP starts about 1.5 hrs before game time so I would get there early if you wanna get those signatures.

Is it NY or Baltimore? I ask because when I've been to Baltimore it's been pretty empty before the game, so your chances of an autograph are better.

If your son brings a sign like it was suggested and you get there for BP you may get a player's attention and get a ball tossed to you, too.

Bring a Sharpie for autographs - they'll write on anything.

As far as the DSLR, I remember the old Yankee Stadium (it seems that's where you're going) being very picky about bags being let in. I swear one time a friend had to check her camera bag. But -I could be mis-remembering. (I'm from Boston and only went there a handful of times).

Finally, food is expensive there. I am usually a rebel and sneak in some peanuts or sunflower seeds.

good call sneaking in food ... it is very expensive ...

Gotta bring the peanuts (in the shells) ... perfect for a game!!

Its in Baltimore as I live in Virginia. I would not dare go to NYC. Traffic would be murder. Thanks for the tips so far its really helpful. I have no idea when we will get there. They are doing the chartered bus thing. I wish the game was a national/yankee game. Beggars cant be choosers.

Do you have a minor league team nearby? The prices at these games typically are MUCH better and your son would have a great time!!! You can sit closer to the action and there is a lot of entertainment between innings. The newer ballparks have a LOT going on besides the baseball. I love going to minor league games!

You are going to be very glad it's a chartered bus deal - they'll drop you off very near the stadium. You're gonna have a great time...

Dang ... now i'm getting jealous ...

I am sure we will but I am more of a football guy. Want to go to a Skins cowboy game really bad.

That would be awesome!!! A good football rivalry can't be beat. (i'm a lions fan - not a lot to cheer about lately, but we're getting much better)

For excitement - how about NASCAR? I know it's not everyone idea of fun, but raceday can be a blast. Get to the track early (like 8 hours before the race) and cook out / tailgate. have a few beers. Walk around meet new people. and what might be the best part - at some (i'm not sure about all) tracks - you can take your own cooler in to the race! Not a big cooler mind you, but you can bring your own beer. Just don't forget the earplugs - those cars are LOUD.

The pre-race atmosphere is just as much fun as the race itself...

WEll I cant say much as I am a skins fan and they just plain suck. Still they are my team and have to stick with them. When I lives in washington state I was a seahawk fan but moving to the east coast kinda hard to watch seahawks games on tv. So the skins became my team. At least yall had one of the best running backs of all time.

Nascar just isnt my cup of tea. I use to watch it when Richard Petty was driving but I grew out of it.

I need to make it to a game!! Have fun DJ and for you non baseball types I hope there are a lot of runs scored, I hear that helps (i can enjoy a game that ends 1-0 on a couple hits in the 10th, lol)
