Root First time rooting and have free mem ?

So I rooted and turned the majority of the stock apps to bak and according to ATK the most available free memory I can get out of it is 93MB. Any reason for this?

I rooted yesterday morning and got rid of the all the VZW apps and the phone "seems" to react faster and it hasnt heated up on me or forced me to restart it since then. This is great to me since it seems that since the 605
"upgrade" I've had battery issues and I've needed to restart the thing 2 or 3 times a day but I thought I would gain more free mem space by getting rid of the bloat?

Shouldnt have any heating problems just because of root in first place, but im not sure how much freezing/ renaming will free up space, but you can be sure that it will not run anymore or take any resources.

after rereading that, I think I might wrote that wrong.

before rooting, I had heating and battery issues and had to reboot the phone a few times during the day. After rooting and freezing the bloat these seem to have gone away.

Ah ok, rooting the X really brings this phone to the next level. If you really want to experience some more great things from root i think you would like the Overclocking and ROMs. For the ROMs there are a good selection of stable ones to choose from, my preferred would be Apex, and with overclocking apps you can slow down the CPU to get some extra battery life out of your device if you wanted :)

Don't obsess over freeing up memory. Free memory is wasted memory. Android is pretty good about killing tasks when it needs more resources.

Thanks guys. I'll give a ROM or 2 a shot. BTW, the battery life has improved greatly since doing this and i love it! My phone has been off the charger since 4am EST and it still shows 76% life left where I would have definitely had it plugged into the charge by now

The Droid X has a Linux based OS on it. It needs to use up the memory for everything to function properly. This is normal. You CAN free up more memory by using a task killer but the OS will just turn those processes back on when it needs them so don't waste your time with a task killer.

You can also save memory by getting rid of all the VZW WasteMyTimeWare that's been installed on your phone. This of course will only be effective if the said VZW app is loading itself into your memory. But as Binary said, your phone is pretty good at freeing memory by killing low priority tasks should it need a memory boost.

Now one of the BEST things you can do is get rid of that WasteMyTimeWare on yer phone by either freezing it, which is what I recommend, renaming the file extention for it to .bak, or deleting it. That will save some memory if, like I said before, it's crap that's loading into memory.

It will also make your phone run better because it doesn't have so many processes it's trying to load all at once anymore. That in itself will save you battery life. Not much but it's a start. If you wanna save the most battery life then there's two things you defenitely want to do. And that's turn off your WiFi and don't use it unless you have to and turn off your sync. Turn your sync on once a day, let your apps sync, turn it back off.

You can also overclock your phone with an app like QuickClock Advance or Droid Overclock. Both are good apps. You have the choice to overclock your phone to increase the performance or you can undervolt/underclock it to slow things down a bit to save battery life.

If you wanna give overclocking a try, search this forum and you will find some excellent instructions on how to do so.
