Root First time rooting help.

Hello my name is Vanessa. I want to root my Samsung Galaxy S but first I want to know exactly what it does and how is it useful. I also want to delete all the unnecessary stock apps but I don't want to ruin my phone either. I read somewhere that someone deleted something they weren't supposed to and it became 'bricked' whatever that means lol. It would be very helpful if you guys could throw some info my way and what are some good roms to use. and also which app is best for backup/restoring EVERYTHING on the phone (not just contacts and SMS and call log) don't really care for that. I have my contacts synchronized to my Gmail and SMS restore app.

And ofc. Need to know if you have the recovery/download menu there.
Shutdown your phone and Press volume down, home + power
Shutdown your phone and Press volume up, home + power.

And tell me what you get.

Also settings>>about phone and whats written there? What Android version you have?

Z4root.apk download and use a app installer to root or unroot phone. Bricking is where the phone's only use is to be a brick. lol
I dont know about back up apps. sozza

Do NOT UNINSTALL Gtalk. If you do, get ready for a crash course in flashing roms. XD
