Root [FIXED]Unable to Re-Install Google Chrome

In an attempt to free up some space, I tried to move the Chrome app to my sd using /system/app mover.

During the process an error occurred and not only did it not install the app to my sd, it also deleted it from the system folder.

I was dumb enough not to make a backup of it first, but I did have a nandroid backup that I attempted to use to recover the app.

I tried using the Extract from Nandroid backup function in Titanium Backup, and even though it says "Batch restore finished" it does not restore Chrome.

I then extracted the .apk from the nandroid backup and attempted to install the original file back to the /system/app folder using ADB, ES File Explorer, and the root browser in ROM Toolbox, making sure to change the permissions to rw-r--r-- and rebooting after each attempt.

I am unable to install Chrome from the Play Store as well. I get one of 2 errors. It's either "Unknown error code during application install: "-24" after manually installing the .apk or "Application cannot be installed in the default install location" if I try to install after deleting the .apk.

I don't want to do a factory reset/CWM Recovery as my last backup was almost a year ago and I'd rather not have to re-install everything just for Chrome.

Could anyone provide an actual backup of theirs from Titanium Backup or perhaps assist me with this issue in some way?

I'd be very grateful for any help I can get. I apologize for the large amount of text as I just wanted to be thorough.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums - I see you reghistered a few years ago!

Not sure what the solution is, but have you tried to install Chrome Beta instead?

I registered a while ago when I got my first android phone but never really had anything to say. This site is an incredible source of information, and I generally have no problem finding a solution to any problems that may arise.

This however has me stuck. I am currently using Chrome Beta in the meantime but I would really like to find a way to fix the original. That's why I'm hoping another user might be able to provide me with a backup.

I'm not sure exactly how Titanium Backup restores apps, but I'm hoping it's a little more complicated than my attempts to just drop the files in the correct folder.

Thank you for your suggestion!

EDIT:So I managed to get it fixed by restoring to my year old CWM backup and then backing up the stock Chrome app with TB. I then reverted to my fresh CWM backup and used TB to restore Chrome.
A bit of a pain but at least it's working now.
