Flash rom for locked Hero

Hi
I am just start to work with android - and buy a HERO
However - the HERO is locked for Orange UK - and i don't have any sim for.
Also i can't do anything with the phone - when turning on - the unlock screen appeared and wait for the unlock code.


I search a lot of article on the web , and all of them talk about flash the rom , but need to do it from the HERO menu.

Is there any method/option to flash the rom from the SD card only ? some emergency help - even delete all phone content.

Was the unlock code in the phone when you bought it ?.
Or did you put it in.

You could just buy an unlock code, i just bought one from HTCCode - Remote Unlocking got code in 10mins and worked first time. Make sure you have the latest firmware from the HTC website.

Thx both of you for answers - please see my comments

1.I buy the phone out of UK , and phone is without sim , and locked by Orange UK for non-orange sim - it is mean i can't do anything
2.I can by a unlocked code - however how can i know if the phone has latest HTC version ? as i mention in 1. -i have no access to phone menus

Goto the HTC website and download the most recent software, follow the instructions on installing it, at the start of the installation it will tell you what your currant version is and what it will upgrade to.

Already try it , but the executable program didn't recognize the phone and exit immediately
For sure connect the phone to my PC by the usb cable
