Root Flash ROM Without Rom Manager?

Hello all...

I'm having a horrible time trying to get a new custom ROM on my Vibrant. It has 2.1 on it, so Rom Manager won't install.

Every single tutorial out there tells me to use Rom Manager to flash a ROM.

Is there a way around this? I can't be the only one to have run into this problem.

I'm having the same problem trying to install ROM Manager. I was able to download the premium version, but it doesn't have the actual software in it. I found the free version on the Android Market through my computer, but it won't install, because it says it's not compatible with my device (running 2.1, of course). I've already rooted the phone, but have had no success trying other methods to flash CM7. OY. I'll take a look at the fix you tried.

makaraka's link appears to be down.

I am also having a problem flashing with ROM Manager. It is not installing nandroid properly on froyo. I had it flash ClockworkMOD, which seems to just create an update.zip. When I boot into the recovery menu and select "reinstall packages", it gets as far as saying "replacing stock recovery with ClockworkMod recovery..." and then reboots back into the stock recovery menu.

I wonder if there is a way to manually get nandroid on there, but can't find any info on that. Pointers?

Take a look at this video: Root & Install Ice Cream Sandwich On The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant No Computer Needed - YouTube

I was able to get from stock 2.1 to CM7 with no problem. From there I just went to Ice Cream Sandwich 13.1. :)

Edit: Be sure to open the video in a new tab or window so you can access the files you will need.

I tried the method on that video, and I had a problem installing the cyanogen mod 7. When I got to the part where you install the new rom from the sd card, it wouldn't install. When I looked at the rom file in my file manager, it turned out not to be a .zip file. I changed the name to a .zip file, but that did not fix it. I tried downloading that file several times, and each time it was not a .zip file.
