Root flashing a new ROM

Is this the correct procedure for a desire? (copied from a thread in a Motorola forum)

Ok, I just want to cover all my bases and make sure everything is set for me.

I rooted my ATRIX, installed ROM manager pro and Titanium backup pro, backed up my apps and data with Titanium, and flashed clockworkmod with rom manager.

I have the Alien rom and the alien theme downloaded and put on my sdcard.

From what I understand I just click install rom in rom manager and it should all be good correct?

Thanks for any advice! I just want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly.
I have rooted my Desire and now need to flash a ROM.

Another question - when should I partition my SD card? Before flashing the ROM or after?

Also do I need the pro version of Titanium Backup?

DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER!!!!! http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/356192-warning-do-not-use-rom-manager.html

All the information you need is in the guides.

Check the devs requirements for your ROM. If your chosen ROM needs an sd card partition it using gparted before flashing the ROM otherwise it won't boot.

You don't need the PRO version of Titanium but it makes life easier. The dev has put an enormous ammount of work into this app & deserves to be supported ;)

And there is a glaring omission in what you quoted: before flashing anything, take a backup from recovery (a nandroid backup) as well as using Ti.

Basically do what nicka says - read the guides in this forum first. Rooting faq, root memory faq, both from the All Things Root Guide sticky post.

In that case don't bother partitioning your SD card. But you should still read the root memory faq, as to get the most out of that one you should go S-Off (if you are not already) and flash a custom hboot to give yourself more storage.

I'd recommend trying the ROM first, then flashing hboot if you decide you like it. Probably simpler to do S-Off first though (alpharev works best with a stock ROM, not sure about revolutionary).

It's the 26th item in the rooting faq, "How to flash a custom ROM".

Note that some ROMs have particular requirements, so it's always a good idea to read the first couple of posts of a rom's thread before flashing. Just remember to take all backups first: Titanium, a nandroid and an additional SMS backup.
