Flashing an HTC Evo 4G to Virgin Mobile

Data has become way to expensive to the point where the question becomes do you even need it? Why would you pay $30/month on something like that when there are tons of new wi-fi places becoming available. So I am probably going to switch from Sprint and get in on the Virgin Mobile-pay as you go. I would really like it once my contract is up in early December if I can then just use my current HTC Evo 4G and register that with Virgin Mobile. But I am unaware as to how I would do that? Is it illegal?

You could check with Virgin Mobile and see if they will flash it over for you. In general it is illegal to do yourself but carriers can (and do) legally flash phones for people onto their own network.

Specifically, the legality of the situation comes into play when you start modifiying the ESN/MEID of the device, which is often required for flashing a phone over to another carrier.

You'll have much better luck trying to get the phone flashed to Boost Mobile, they are much more amenable to having flashed phones on their network. As of right now Virgin only allows their own branded phones on the service.
