Flashing memory = fixing touch screen?

Something strange happened the other day.

The original problem appeared a few months ago, getting worse until yesterday. The touchscreen began to become very unresponsive at the bottom 1/3, and sometimes it would detect my finger when it was an inch away. Basically it was nearly impossible to text - everytime I touched the top rows, it would register at the bottom of the screen (spacebar, enter etc). I got sick of it, and since I had an extended warranty I tried unrooting and restoring it to it's original firmware.

When I got to flashing the memory (with CWM), it all went away. Now my touchscreen functions like it always did (albeit a bit slow, probably because of its age).

What does the memory have to do with the responsiveness of the touch screen?

Actually it's the touchscreen drivers bundled in the build .
Sometimes you have corrupted drivers which makes the touchscreen wonky .
If the touchscreen drivers get corrupted ,a flash usually repairs it .
