Flashing official firmware on rooted Hero?

My hero is rooted with Fresh 1.1. It's great, but I want to be able to get apps from the Market which require firmware 1.6 or greater. Since that isn't available for Sprint yet, I was wondering if it is possible to flash an updated firmware to your rooted phone? Or a way to make the phone or market believe you have a high enough firmware so you can get those apps.

The ones I really want (but can't get with firmware 1.5) are USAA Deposit@Mobile and the new Google Maps with layers and turn by turn.

I can't find any specifics on this, so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

There are ROMs out there for 1.6, 2.0, and 2.1 in varying stages of completion. If the apps gave protection turned on (a developer option) you won't see them on these ROMs however if they don't then you will see them and can install them. Be sure to read up on any ROM you are installing because of them have pieces not working. Here is a list of known ROMs that's a little more up to date then the sticky here: XDADeveloperWiki - CDMA HERO WIKI ROM PAGE
