I live in Florida but have a summer home in Northern Michigan. I have a background in IT from the old days (15 Years retired). I am a senior but have a real yen to get up to speed with technology; I have been doing this for the past year and a half now. I have a Motorola Droid RAZR and an HTC Thunderbolt. I also have a couple Laptops running Windows 7, Internet Cameras in both homes, a treadmill with iLive technology, a couple Garmin GPS units, and various other Gadgets and Gizmos. I live alone so my real problem is being able to test various scenarios, compare notes with, and get advice from fairly knowledgeable people.
I am a Google Fan (Great Technology Company) and of course have Gmail, Google+, Google Voice, Google Chat, etc. but have no friends/acquaintances that will venture into these waters. They have smart phones, laptops, etc. but do not really get much use out of them because they are not very knowledgeable folk and will not try anything new. Obviously I need to get in with a group that has the same interests as my own.
