Has anyone tested the fm radio? I presume it requires earphones connected as an antennae is that the case ?

I don't think is has an FM radio. If it does I can't find the app for it. With TuneIn, IHeart, Pandora, etc. it's not a problem for me if it does not.

This is odd; almost every description of hardware I can find indicates it has an fm radio.

I wonder if they confused sprint radio with hardware receiver ?

I noticed that in the first videos from the Samsung conference it had an FM tuner app, but in the new hands on videos I no longer see any FM app. I guess Sprint either removed the app, or more likely, removed the FM tuner all together.

I wanted to find out the answer to this so I went to the Samsung website to chat with customer support.

Keisha: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Keisha: Please let me know how may I assist you.
John: I wanted to find out if the Galaxy S II Epic Touch on Sprint has an FM tuner in it
Keisha: I understand that you want to know Galaxy S ll phone has FM tuner, am I correct?
John: It was announced that it would have an FM Tuner but all we can find is Sprints radio. It is listed on some sites as having an FM tuner however this information is not listed on the Sprint site and in addition there is no app loaded onto the phone that can utilize an FM tuner. So does the phone have an FM tuner?
John: Yes you are correct. I just want to know if there is an FM tuner built into the phone.
Keisha: Thank you for confirming.
Keisha: I understand your concern.
Keisha: In the phone, Sprint is providing Sprint radio application as a default.
Keisha: You can download FM tuner application from Android market on the phone.
John: We know it has sprint internet radio but does it have the tuner built in and all we need is the app?
Keisha: If it is available on Android market, you will get list of application related to FM tuner.
John: SO it does have a tuner and sprint had asked to make the sprint internet radio the default?
Keisha: Sprint is providing Sprint radio as a default one. If you want to install FM tuner, you can download it from Android market.
John: Great. Thank you
Keisha: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
John: That answered my question. Thank you

But she didn't actually answer the question if the device would support a downloaded fm ap :)

She merely said you could download one not if it would work....

She just repeat all your questions and doesn't give you a real solution.

In looking at the ifixit.com teardown of the Samsung-Epic-4G-Touch it has the following:

Broadcom BCM4330XKFFBG 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC/Baseband/Radio with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM Transceiver/Receiver

Now who can get it to work?

I was waiting for you to buy the phone and give us a report. Personally, I don't desire to listen to FM on my phone.

My phone already supports it. I was in this tread because I wondered if the Touch did as well. You own the phone yet you claim you don't even care about the feature. Why are you even in this thread then?

Okay, so I tried. The problem is that there are very few developers who have attempted a non-stock FM radio. In fact, the only one I could find is https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mikersmicros.fm&feature=search_result .

As the information from the developer makes clear, very few non-root phones can use the program. True to his word, the E4GT did not work.

It is very possible the E4GT has an FM antennae. However, it will take a rooted phone to answer the question definitively. For now, I can't get it to work.

Maybe there is another program out there that will.

Thank you so much for testing this out. I wasn't giving you a hard time. Maybe one day Samsung will release the official FM tuner they had on the other Galaxy S II phones. This will be a good test to see how much faster they are on software updates than in the past. This of course is assuming that there is a tuner in there in the first place.

i can't find a fm app that will work yet either. I liked the fm radio (actual radio) on my evo 4g as my network coverage is moderate and internet radio just would not hold a good connection. Little disappointed but not a deal breaker as the phone is awesome.
