FM Radio

All of you are probably aware of this already ... I wasn't.

I need to monitor the politics in a local FM radio talk show for some of the projects I support ...

The Bionic has a built-in FM receiver but for some reason it does not come with a preinstalled FM Radio App.

The one I am using is described at ... The DROID Bionic Has FM Radio - Tune In Using The DROID 3 Radio APK ... and this one is not available from the App Market.

Is there a better FM Radio App?

(Being able to move around and do productive things while I am moinitoring this "wonderful" program has been a real improvement.)

dunno. I use TuneIn Radio to access radio stations.

Seems to work fine for me, I don't like the fact that you HAVE to have headphones plugged in for the app to work at all. Once launched, you can play sound through the internal speaker but still have to keep headphones plugged in. I do have TuneIn Radio as well but not needing a data connection to listen is nice.

I ran the fm radio app once I got some earphones and had to set the headphone volume way down because it was so loud. After quitting the program, the audio level on my phone was so low as to be practically inaudible despite the volumes for ringer, nedia, and alarm were all maxed out. Required reboot to restore volume. Don't really need fm radio anyway when one has pandora and the like, or streaming fm radio stations. Since I have grandfathered unlimited data it adds nothing to the mix, for me anyway.

Pandora is my favorite app and my most used app.

I use the FM radio at the gym to listen to the tv stations they have on. Otherwise, TuneinRadio works really well. No headphones required.

Some great ideas ...

Using it to pick up audio in a location like a gym seems great.

I checked and the two-hour talk show I have to monitor is not available on TuneIn Radio. (Station too small?)

This happened to me last night as well. I tried to re-create it today but it did not happen. Nice to know it's not just my phone.

Thanks for that - I hate the fact that it has to have the wired headset plugged in, b/c I don't have a wired headset, and thus have not been able to test it - yet.

I wonder if just a couple of wires connected to a stereo mini plug would work?

:D

That's what the app says, thanks, but I don't like using wired headphones - I have a nice pair of Motorola S9-HDs that I'd rather use for music.

At least with this option you can listen to the radio via the internal speaker....

I know it's annoying but it wouldn't work otherwise, because the headphones are acting as the antennae.
