FM Tuner modification

Mcgiere

Lurker
Can the FM tuner in the HTC Incredible be modified to pickup up higher frequencies, up to 135 mHz? This would enable monitoring of aircraft communication and automated weather stations used by pilots. Would require setting frequencies such as 119.275, 122.700, 132.050, etc.. (3 decimal places). A headphone must be plugged in to act as the antenna.

or maybe modify it to pickup frequencies around 1420 mhz, that way we can pickup radio waves from other civilizations, give SETI a run for their money.

Sounds rather like a hardware issue rather than an app fix. In other words.. prolly won't be happening.

Of course, if you wanted to design a piece of hardware that would plug into the headphone slot to act as an antenna for those frequencies, I'm sure you could find a dev here who would do the programming for you.

Not sure, but i believe Mcgiere's point is that sometimes hardware is limited by the software... Depending on the type of tuner they used in the phone it may possible to tune frequencies slightly outside the standard FM band. The FM tuner chip may actually be able to tune those frequencies... it just depends on the tuner.

Also, Another question would be does the Android SDK allow you to submit frequencies outside the FM band?

Before making assumptions, it's easy to search over Android Developer site. You'd better to start from the more simple question...

Is it possible to work with FN on Android programmatically? Does it have API for it?

The correct answer is NO, there is no API for FM in SDK now.
