Folder named Android on sd card

This is definitely malware.
1) When this issue was brought up in android central forum they removed the item. Try opening a forum with androidcentral stating "Android directory appears on external media"
2) The directories on the external media have no files only directories. If you remove the Android folder from the external media nothing is affected and the directory will re appear.
3) Nothing should access your external media without your permission. the fact that the external media can be removed should tell you this is malware. Where would files be placed if the external media is removed?

I moved your post to the thread I think you intended it for...

1.) I can't speak to AC's policy on posting, but as we've already explained, it's not malware, it's just the way Android was designed.

2.) while there may be no files in the folders at the time you look there most certainly can be while you are using the app that it's created for. You must realize that while you can browse the folders, apps can only access specific locations to prevent one app injecting any malicious code into another apps data. That's why there's not just one universal temp folder that every app would have access to.

3.) the truth is that by installing the app , you've already given it permission to create and access these folders. If you unplug a USB drive from your PC, the whole system doesn't come crashing down. Does this mean that any files the OS creates on that drive are malware? certainly not. The only difference is that Windows or OSX are designed to be browsable file systems, so they generally hide the system temp and volume management files from the user to prevent this exact type of misinterpretation.

Look for the umpteenth time, it's NOT malware!

FWIW Apple MacOS creates its own directories and files on removable media as well, like on my USB thumb-drive with ".fseventsd" and ".trashes".
Note: there's an "Android" folder as well, as it must have been connected my phone on 25th Sept, which does NOT have malware.

Windows does the same things as well, creates and uses its own folders and files on removable storage.

What kind of foollish reply!
I have stted why this is malware with several points, why don't you state couter points as to why this isn't malware? Start with why Androidcentral forum removed completed this same post.

Actually, you have not given a shred of evidence that this is caused by malware.

In order for it to be considered malware, first you must show that there is something bad about it (that is the meaning of the prefix 'mal').

Second, you would then need to explain how is it that this 'malware' has infected not only yours, but every single Android device on the market.

For you to call anyone else's reply foolish is not close to being justified unless you can show someone anything of the two items that I mentioned.

Frankly, I think that we can all begin to see why Android Central would remove a post by someone that continues to go on and on about absolutely nothing, while not providing any evidence whatsoever of his claims.

Android will (and always has) rebuild folders and files that it deems necessary, without any care for how many times you delete them.

In fact, there are apps that do the very same thing.

Yes, it was disconcerting to me as well when I first started with Android, but as the device was brand new from AT&T the thought of it being infected with malware never crossed my mind.

It can seem spooky, sure, but there is nothing going on.

In fact, I have never even seen the folders you mention get used for anything, and as they take up almost 0 space I don't even notice them unless I have to thumb past them when moving files.

What on Earth makes you think that a bunch of empty folders is malware, anyway?
Just because they are quickly rebuilt?

If anything on Android could be considered malware, it is Google and the way Google Play Services is intertwined with everything.

That is a rabbit hole well worth your time and effort to go down- not a bunch of empty folders on an SD card.

Maybe the mods at AC thought you were trolling their forum? And I'm beginning to think you're doing the same thing here, with this obsession you seem to have. And my counterpoint is, that all Android devices I've got or had do exactly the same thing, and they DO NOT HAVE MALWARE.

Have a nice day.

Okay, I'll bite. Why exactly does a post deleted on a private website demonstrate that empty file folders on removable media is malicious? Unless Android Central would be the author of this "malware", they'd have zero interest in suppressing this "information" and quite frankly would benefit them to expose it.

You've asked a reasonable question and been given an honest and accurate answer. If it is your choice to believe something differently because you don't understand the technology, that's your prerogative, but it doesn't make it true.

If this was happening 10,000 years ago, the Egyptians would have slapped an animal head on a human body and worshiped a god of file folders. 5,000 years ago the Greeks would have written a story about an Olympian deity who mated with a human to produce a demigod who could create file folders from the ether. 2,000 years ago it would have been a messianic miracle. 550 years ago the Spanish Inquisition would have tortured someone until they confessed it was the work of the devil. (I'll bet you didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!) 300 years ago we'd be called witches and burned for heresy. 70 years ago Joseph McCarthy would have blamed it on communism. Today we know it's simply a process for managing digital storage media ... simple, efficient and completely benign.

Amazing how human knowledge has progressed in 10,000 years ... or not.

Darn it!
No wonder the last baked potato I cooked that was wrapped in foil smelled like burt hair while it was cooking!

Look brother..to give you peace of mind..when I first bumped into such files and folders a while ago I was like wtf..but then started to analyze their behaviour..it was obvious noting malicious was going on inside them..didn't like them in my phone though..so I had a Tasker to handle them..so it deletes them every single day at midnight..

That had me chill.

So now when I see your question at the beginning of this thread I said..finally I will l have an answer to my wonder..and my boys gave you and at the same time gave me the answer I've been wondering about.

Thanks my boys!!!
