For all you 3-D's a gimmick people

They dont use the same 3D tech in surgery as the 3D projections the phones or movies have. The "3D imaging" used in hospitals are the same tech used in 3D games like Assassin's Creed, Starcraft 2, WoW, or those 3D cartoons. They just use a normal computer screen, not those polarized screens or parallax barriers where the images are jumping out of the screen. Have you ever tried reading CT scans? If you have you'd understand why recompiling those scans into 3D images is necessary, even life saving. But they arent the same "3D" as whats being discussed here. SPB Mobile Shell is 3D, but it doesnt use 3D displays. That's the same type of "3D" that's in general use in hospitals nowadays, not the same one as in IMAX or the Evo 3D.

Ummm... yes they are actually 3D images. meaning seeing distance, depth and such.

and i am not just talking about some CT scans or such. have you ever seen piece of medical equipment and you have to put your eye to the two separate screens? they have small LCD screen for EACH eyes to produce 3D image.

They made it 3D so when surgeons are controlling the medical equipment, they can actually see in 3D.

With 2D technology, Lee explained that surgeons had to compensate for the lack of dimension. In order to tell where things were relative to each other, the endoscope had to be moved from side-to-side, up and down, right and left. “When we’re doing endoscopic surgery we’re always moving around. But that’s not the way we really should be operating.”

I can also go back and find the monographs for the medical industry where some teams are using lenticular displays to free themselves from glasses. Looked those up before I found the Evo 3D used a parallax barrier display.

3D is here to stay in the medical community.
