For the electronic geeks

The oscilloscope I used back in high school was used to measure voltages. I would not be comfortable hooking this baby up to any type of high voltage equipment when it is connected to my wrist. One slip and bzzzzzzzzzzz. :)

This post got me thinking about using one of the oscilloscope apps in the Play Store. But you would obviously need some hardware in order to use the app. I came across this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nfx.noscpro&hl=en

Looks like there are a couple of different options for hardware:

A Preamplifier for Smartphone Oscilloscopes

-or-

XMEGA Xprotolab | Development Boards | Gabotronics

-or-

XMEGA Xminilab | Development Boards | Gabotronics

Does anyone use their smartphone as an oscilloscope? I have a small, "portable" oscilloscope that I use for troubleshooting marine AC generator output but it only gets used about 3-4 times a year and I usually don't carry it with me on service calls...plus it's overkill for my simple needs. Having a small device I can keep in my tool bag to use with my phone would be great. It would only need to measure and look at AC voltage signals less than 600VAC. Mainly looking at distortion of the AC waveform due to various reasons.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread...but this thread got me thinking about other oscilloscope options for my Galaxy S4.

I would totally do that!

I actually did shop for an oscilloscope app for my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0... but frankly there are better stand-alone tools out there at reasonable prices.

I just don't have the time to go building something for myself, so I will likely get myself something along the lines of the DSO Nano, just to have available for those two or three times a year when I am out in the field and need something a little more complex than a DMM.

I paid into a kickstarter for a thermal camera (with decent resolution) to use in conjunction with my pad, hoping that comes sooner than later, because I have more use for that than I do for a pocket oscilloscope at work.

If the watch isn't like this:

Not worth it.

I still want K.I.T.T. But unfortunately, GM axed Pontiac.

However, I refuse to see Knight's watch as a smart watch. It had a two-way communicator but other than the 'transmit' button, was a standard, bottom of the barrel LCD watch.

So when did this degrade into talking about the imaginary watch of a comic character?

I like the Oscilloscope watch, and it would be cool to have it..
