Very nice! I'd use it, at least for a while, but, since I'm not a Premium member, if I change my avatar I wont be able to switch back.(current one was grandfathered in when they changed the size limits.)

I think now you have to be a premium member to have an animated avatar. And yes - quite lame.
Don't think so, one of the guides tried using an animated avatar and it had to be super small to retain the avatar, it worked but looked like crap. And the only commonalities between guide/premium are the max size allowance. I think anyway
