Root For those of us with failed ota updates...

The general consensus is the best thing to do is return it to a corporate store (after unrooting and restoring to stock, if you didn't do this you are part of the problem...) explain your situation, and hope they get that by rights they need to exchange it as the phone in its current state is likely violating FCC violations.

If like me, your local corporate metro stores are run by orange, bald headed, buffons who can't grasp that the phone can't be updated in it's partially completed state at all, we need to try to find either a way to finish the update ourselves, through one of our most excellent upcoming custom roms, or complain loud and heavy enough to metro that they give us a way to do it.

Well at least I do. If anyone else has a tale of woe regarding trying to get this update feel free to share, it'll at least keep me entertained.

And of course all suggestions are welcome as to what those of us stuck this way should do, I'm all ears...

Watch it just be me who can't get an exchange, watch... :P

If you got the modem updates but not the ROM update, don't bother taking it back. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and as noted before, the official custom ROM is based on EE07.

I wouldn't take it back either to do a war swap, because you will 99% of the time get a FRU = Factory Refurbished Unit. Which can have its own problems. I can tell you that I do this at work everyday for people, and the ones who don't swap out their phones never come back. The ones that do, tend to have to swap again, and again....etc.

If you think you can get lucky and get the 1% which you won't get a fru, the only possible way that's going to happen is either the store doesn't have any FRU's or the Store manager approves a crack box (good luck with that though, they normally aren't willing to do that practically ever). Also for the longest time I haven't had a way to tell if the FRU has been used before or not, until a week ago when I went to swap someones phone and (i found all the prior customers data still on the phone, and the 1 gig sd card of their own, which they must have left inside). I of course went back and got a different phone, but most reps won't be so kind.

as long as I know a way to fix it is coming certainly won't swap. Thanks for the info though, knock on wood my phone has been alright so far
