I just received my extended battery case from htc pedia

Just a short review of the red extended battery case.

One word "AWESOME". I was concerned about the case adding extra girth onto the already huge phone, but to my surprise it doesn't seem to add any extra weight. The reason being is the case is just a gel shell (if you will). It covers out the outtermost of the phone.

The phone in the back is still exposed for the extended battery part which is a negative. You could still drop the phone on the back and damage the battery cover. I was anticipating that the whole phone would be covered. IMO if you would buy a regular verizon red gel case and cut the back out of the case you will have yourself an extended battery case without the added cost.

If you are the type that needs an otter box type of case this is NOT for you, again the back is exposed.

If you have any questions ill be happy to answer any.

FYI posted on a few different forums so if you see at a few different places, yep its me lol.

One of the cases on Verizon's & HTCPedia's site will work for the extended battery. It's a hard case that comes with a holster. There was a big deal made about this because some people got it who didn't have the extended battery and remarked how much space there was between the stock cover and the case.

BTW, I mentioned the same thing you did about getting a TPU case from Verizon and cutting out the hump and you'd essentially have the same case as what you got. The thing is, that's pretty much the all there is for extended battery TPU cases. I have yet to see one that covers the entire phone with an extended battery. It was the same for both Incredibles and for the Tbolt.

I believe the reason that's the case is that they'd have to retool the mold for the extended setup, where in this case they simply have to cut away the area for the hump. Along with that you'd probably run into issues with the difference in extended battery covers from HTC, Seidio, etc.

I have one. As a test, could you go to the roof of your house and drop it onto the ground? Just to see how good this case protects?

I kid i kid. But it is interesting that they really just cut the back out of the normal cases and let the extended battery cover be the protector. I know the backcover is pretty big but as far as protecting the phone? Nah. I don't think i'd trust it with a drop. Especially considering it's not just a cover, it's also your antenna. And if you dropped your case and broke the back cover, wouldn't you have to buy the battery+back cover all over again? I haven't seen the extended cover sold by itself

It's shit like this why i'm sticking with a standard+ a spare standard. I have a battery charger i plug into the wall, so i never have to plug my phone in. Whenever i get low on juice, i just pop the other battery in and put the discharged battery on the charger. Love it

This is unlikely; I haven't had any problems when I have dropped my Incredible. This is what most of DI owners did because at the time, there were no cases for extended batteries. If someone should plan to do this, I would recommend using a Dremmel. It will make the cuts cleaner and your finished product will look more professional and not all gashed up'd.

You can apparently get them from Verizon, but you have to ask, it's not on the website. They offered to send me one but I had already ordered another ext batt. and will be sending the one I have now back (battery door doesn't seat very securely).

As far as cases for ext. batts., you can either get the case/holster combo, or one of these with a cutout for the hump area. That was the same thing with all of the HTC phones I have owned (Inc1 & 2, Tbolt, and Rezound). See my above answer for more details.

2 questions that aren't really important to this thread but peaked my curiousity: you ordered another extended battery?! I've honestly never heard of anyone needing two extendeds. That's some major use right there. And you had the inc2 and the bolt? Seeing as though they both came out this year, that's some insane htc love right there

Now on the topic, my question on the original case is: since all cases add thickness to the back, even a case i get with my standard battery, does the extended + this case equal about the same thickness as a standard since the back of it is nonexistant?

Wouldn't my standard rezound with a case be about the same as an extended with no case on the back? Just a thought. And one that might ease worries for people on the fence because of thickness

That's exactly right. I can do a precise comparison when my wife's Rezound arrives, but I have both cases, and the gel one makes for much nicer pocket carry than the plastic extended case, and feels better in the hand. The extended rear cover kind of tapers right into the edge of the case, and gently rises to a few millimeters past the case. Laying it face down next to the standard case, the difference is maybe 2 millimeters.

This looks like exactly what I'd want. Not so concerned about protecting the back as I am the bezel. I think for resale value, if that gets dinged and scratched it just makes the phone look really worn. Also, My wife dropped her Inc2 and the bezel started to lift away from the screen a little so I think protecting those edges is where the case comes in most handy. Two questions, do you have a link handy (I want to make sure I get the exact same one you're showing here), and how much does the cover impede touching the edge of the screen? The screen size is taking a little getting used to as far as how to hold the phone to be able to pull down on the notification bar and also reach the bottom buttons with my thumb, all while not having to reposition. Trying to decide if adding another obstacle to that juggling act is worth it.

It doesn't impede pressing the edges very much if at all.

I tend to agree that the rear cover protection is less critical- I worry more about a corner drop than the front bezel scratching, though. The case we're talking about here will definitely do what you want in terms of scratch protection, IMO.

I have sort of mixed feelings about how much this will help the corners, though- Something a little more gel-y might be a little better in that regard, but would also be stickier in the pocket. Of course, you'd also have to make it yourself by cutting the back out of a gel case.

At the end of the day, both my wife and I will have this phone, with each of us having an extended battery available, so this case won't go to waste, really, but it might end up not beeing my first choice when more cases are available.

I'm only thinking of this from the perspective of my OG droid, which I wish I had protected a little better, since it now has a lot of very visible digs and scratches along the thin metal edge that surrounds the screen. The metal is painted black and the dings show very visibly where the metal underneath shows through. Kinda looks beat now, and will probably affect whatever little resale value it had.
