All the reviews on phonedog etc on youtube raved about the battery life and sound quality and so on, basically no bad things were said! So I had high expectations and I signed up for a 24 month contract with Vodafone UK.

I am happy enough with the device itself and it worked fine out of the box. BUT I am so freakin disappointed with the sound quality through headphones. Its absolutely appalling considering I will pay over

To fix GPS you need to add the gps.conf file that LG forgot.

CM7 (despite bugs) improves the phone in just about every way. Can't hurt to try it before deciding on returning it.

Thanks for that regarding the GPS. Its disappointing that LG are uninterested in providing that key file in the last update given that the phone has been out since January.

I may give Gingerbread a go see what happens. Not many other posts here by others who feel the same about the sound which is a little surprising.

My first post ever ^^

@kore: I do not recommend CM7 nightly, if you want a phone fully
functional, but to wait for official 2.3, or a stable cyanogenmod rom.

BTW I use a simple pair of sony headphones, which cost around
$20, the ones came with the phone were pretty useless.

I do not have any problems with the music though when using
the sony headphones, also considering that there is pretty wide
scale of EQ settings in the LG player which is impressive and
they are also quite effective.

However, I am disappointed about this phone too, because..

- it came with a crap user interface, few options only, lagging
homescreen animation,
- 2.2 system just because they wanted to be the first to release
a dual-core mobile phone, it should've came with 2.3 at least, now
we will actually pray to get any update after 2.3...
- I CAN'T download anything using Tegra app,
- RAM in the phone DISAPPEARS after few days, so you have to
restart it, but WHY? everyone says Android is clever and will manage
your ram efficiently, well I never saw anything like that, I have to use
task killer on my "high-end" phone, or if I want to open a webpage,
restart the phone, cause it got sooo slow..
- I dunno if it's the camera or the camera app, but the picture quality
is terribly, even if I try setting up everything manually, literally there
is NO macro mode (!) 'cause I could not take ANY macro photos, not
even with manual focus; my 5mpixel desire would take twice as better
quality photos. (NO DEDICATED CAMERA BUTTON - WTF?!)

phew..

But to mention some positive things :

- I love the gorilla glass
- I love the IPS panel display and its quality
- I love holding the phone, it feels good quality
- I like the default keyboard, however I thought HTC has the best of all
- Multitasking is fast and real

Kind regards.

Lol you got the sound problem too? actually its sound is awesome xD but its bugged sometimes its normal sound (high sound and great quality) but mostly of the times its just low sound and bad quality xd

I wouldn't say the sound quality is "crap", but the S/N ratio is poorer than my Nokia 5230 was. I notice more hissing sound when music is not playing.
On the other hand using PowerAMP I have been able to customize the equalizer settings for each pair of headphones I use to exactly how I want them and the sound quality is great on anything other than really quiet passages where the hissing shows up on some phones (phones with strong treble)
The preamp slider is an acceptable workaround for the lack of fine steps in the volume setting.

What phones are you using?

The more I read about this phone, the more I believe it's best to wait for the HTC Sensation to drop in price, or go with the Nexus S. There just seems like so many problems and LG really dropped the ball with some simple things.
