Force Alarm through Silent Mode

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question, but I've been unable to find any other answers elsewhere. If I'm in the wrong place, please tell me so.

I've only recently updated to Android 5.0 and the fact that Alarms do not go off during Silent Mode has already made me late to work twice in addition to countless other issues. Is there any way to force the alarm to go off during Silent Mode, or to disable silent mode all together? I understand that priority mode is a thing but I don't want to have to dig through menus every time I want to silence my phone, I just want to use the volume rocker.

If you have any ideas where I might else look for help, please tell me. Thank you.

I've used Alarm Clock Plus for years.. It has a setting for independent volume. Never missed the buzzer..
I have no experience with stock alarm. I'm also on 5.0

I thought alarm should fire regardless, are you sure you are not using Do-not-disturb mode? With alarm exception?
